FreeNAS includes ZFS, a combined file system and logical volume manager that supports high storage capacities and data integrity validation. The software is designed to from a USB drive on a dedicated machine. You can use an old computer and use internal or extenal hard drives as storage volumes. </p><p style="width: 75%; text-align: left; ">The initial setup is fairly simple, you create the bootable USB or Flash drive and then use it to boot the host computer.
